Security Control

Safety and security is a top priority for all our air travellers. In line with international practice, all departing passengers will have to go through security checks at the airport.

At KFIA, it’s security for your safety.

Passport Control upon Departure
All passengers departing on International flights, have to clear passport control. The passport control is located at the Departure level. Passengers are to ensure that they have the necessary documentation and visas for entry into the destination country.

Passengers on Domestic flights do not have to clear passport control. These passengers may proceed to their gates at the Boarding level.

Security upon Departure
All departing passengers must undergo security screening before boarding the flights. KFIA offers centralized security screening for each International departures, and Domestic departures.

Restrictions apply to all liquids, creams, gels, pastes and aerosols (including bottled drinks, cosmetics, perfumes and other cosmetics)

  • Containers do not exceed 100 milliliters individually.
  • Containers fit comfortably within the  re-sealable one-liter transparent plastic bag.
  • Only one bag per passenger.  
  • Plastic bag measures approximately 20 cm X 20 cm or 15cm x 25 cm. The bags can be purchased at most supermarkets.

Exemptions:

  • Exemptions will be made for medications, baby food and special dietary items.
  • Exemptions will also be made for retail liquid items bought at the airport or on board the aircraft and packed in sealed transparent security Tamper-Evident Bags (STEBs) by airport/airline staff. The receipt shall be clearly displayed in the STEB and the date of purchase shall coincide with the date of travel.

Forbidden Items

FIREARMS

  • All kinds of firearms (pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, etc.).
  • Firearm parts (except sights and scopes).
  • Signal flare pistols
  • Replica and imitation firearms.
  • Air pistols, air rifles and pellet guns.
  • Toy guns of all types.
  • Industrial bolt and nail guns.
  • Crossbows and Catapults.
  • Harpoon and spear guns.
  • Stunning or shocking devices, such as cattle prods or laser pistols.
  • Lighters shaped like firearms.

SHARP OR BLADE OBJECTS

  • Axes and hatchets.
  • Arrows and darts.
  • Harpoons and javelins.
  • Pickaxes and ice axes.
  • Ice skates.
  • Automatic knives or switchblades of any length.
  • Knives, including ceremonial knives, with blades longer than 75 mm, made of metal or any other material strong enough to be used as a weapon.
  • Cleavers.
  • Machetes.
  • Open razors and blades (except safety or disposable razors with enclosed blades).
  • Sabres, swords and sword canes.
  • Scalpels.
  • Scissors with blades longer than 75 mm.
  • Ski poles and walking sticks.
  • Throwing stars.
  • Tools that can be used as a stabbing or cutting weapon (drills, drill bits, box cutters, utility knives, saws, screwdrivers, crowbars, hammers, pliers, wrenches, spanners, blow torches, etc.).

BLUNT INSTRUMENTS

  • Baseball and softball bats.
  • Clubs and batons, rigid or flexible (truncheons, night-sticks, canes, etc.).
  • Cricket bats.
  • Golf clubs.
  • Hockey sticks.
  • Lacrosse sticks.
  • Kayak and canoe oars.
  • Skateboards.
  • Billiard cues.
  • Fishing rods.
  • Martial arts equipment (brass knuckles, clubs, truncheons, flails, nunchucks, etc.).

EXPLOSIVES AND FLAMABLE SUBSTANCES

  • Ammunition.
  • Blasting caps.
  • Detonators and fuses.
  • Explosives and explosive devices.
  • Replica and imitations of explosives and explosive devices.
  • Mines and other military-use explosive charges.
  • Grenades of all types.
  • Gas and gas canisters (butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen, etc.) in large volumes.
  • Fireworks, flares of all types and other pyrotechnic articles (including firecrackers and toy caps).
  • Non-safety matches.
  • Smoke-generating canisters.
  • Flammable liquid fuel (petrol, diesel, lighter fluid, alcohol, ethanol, etc.).
  • Aerosol spray paint.
  • Turpentine and paint thinner.

CHEMICAL AND TOXIC SUBSTANCES

  • Acids and alkalis (for example, spillable wet batteries).
  • Corrosive or bleaching substances (chlorine, mercury, etc.).
  • Disabling or incapacitating sprays (pepper spray, tear gas, etc.).
  • Radioactive material (for example, medical or commercial isotopes).
  • Poisons.
  • Infectious or biologically hazardous material (for example, infected blood, bacteria and viruses).
  • Material capable of spontaneous ignition or combustion.
  • Fire extinguishers.

COMPLEMENTARY MEASURES

The relevant authority may prohibit other additional articles. Likewise, reasonable efforts will be made to inform passengers of these articles prior to checking their hold baggage.

Baggage Security for Departure
All checked baggage will be screened by airport security. Passengers should not pack any weapons, combustible items, explosive materials, toxic or other dangerous substances into their check-in baggage. Passengers may be required to have their checked baggage undergo further security screening if deemed necessary.

Passport Control upon Arrival
International passengers arriving at KFIA must have a valid passport. Foreign citizens, except GCC nationals, must also have a valid visa or Iqama, otherwise entry into Saudi Arabia may be denied.
